Indonesia overtaken India as Asia’s new epicenter for the coronavirus pandemic, with daily infections exceeding 50,000 cases. The island of Java and Bali especially are covered in orange or red zone for Covid-19.

The data from Indonesia health Ministry also showed 991 new deaths, bringing the total number to 69,210. Indonesia has the highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths from COVID-19 in Southeast Asia. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that concerns are mounting over the ability of the country’s regions to cope with a spike in coronavirus cases, as the highly transmissible Delta variant spreads quickly across Indonesia.

Several countries have announced new bans and restrictions on travelers from Indonesia to protect themselves from the virus. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and Philippines. Meanwhile, twenty-six Schengen countries still ban nonessential incoming travel from outside European Union countries, which is includes Indonesia.
